"What
an honor to be a vehicle of records, capturing the reality of an age
on canvas for times and peoples to come"

Kathy is a native of Lancaster County Pennsylvania, spending the
majority of her childhood in the midst of the Amish countryside. Born
with a natural talent for art, she strived to learn all she could through
school, correspondence courses, and college, feeding and nurturing her
passion for creativity. Most recently Kathy has reserved time
apart from commission work to develop a portfolio of animal and wildlife
paintings. She plans on focusing on Pennsylvania subjects first, then
enlarging the scope to include North America , and eventually the world.
Kathys
formal art education consisted of attending Moore College of Art in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After college, the informal education
began, and commission jobs started coming in. Much of the early work
was using the traditional mediums including acrylics, oil, pen-and-ink,
pencil, colored pencil, and watercolor. Kathy was also employed by Heritage
Custom Kitchens in New Holland Pennsylvania to create custom artwork
on kitchen cabinets. As a freelance artist, one of the largest commissioned
jobs Kathy completed was painting a restaurant in downtown Lancaster,
Pennsylvania. The owner wanted to create an environment of fantasy and
exotic location. Some of the features of that accomplishment were faux
painted money on the floor that people actually tried to pick up, a
koi fish pond on the floor, and a faux balcony painted o a 30 foot wall.
Residing
in Chester County Pennsylvania with her husband and 3 children, Kathy
now works from her studio on her own personal artistic interests.
Those interests have now become a drive to capture as much on canvas
as possible. Her approach to painting could be considered one that a
portrait artist would take when painting a person; capturing the essence
of the subject, with less emphasis on the surroundings. Kathys
goal is realism. The work is not done until the overall impact is that
of a photograph. Her work is highly detailed yet sometimes blurred to
create that "out of focus" feel and bring the attention onto
the subject. Kathy also enjoys capturing the qualities of light in a
painting. From the back-lit reflection of sunlight on a flower, to the
subtle color change in a shadow, every element contributes to the goal
of realism.
